11 y/o Positively Kills The National Anthem At NBA Finals, Racist Trolls React Like This

Sebastien De La Cruz sang the national anthem at last night's Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat. His rendition was jaw dropping.

The reaction on twitter were also jaw dropping. But for all the wrong reasons.

In the Southwestern US, Spanish ancestry predates the arrival of “Americans” by about 200 years! We are the “illegal aliens” in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California!

These ugly statements against one of the best renditions of our national anthem by a child who has a real gift for singing, makes me ashamed that ignorance in our country is at an all time high.

this is what happens when people lack education and/or marketable skills; they dump on those who have what they lack.

My Spanish teacher once taught us about Gazpacho soup, and she said (and I’m not referencing my Spanish teacher because the Sebastian is Mexican, but because the memory is relevant to the comments)…she said that many people call the United States a Melting Pot, but that she felt it was more like Gazpacho, where all the different flavors were unique and individual, but together made up the meal. I loved that analogy, because I think it’s cool that America would be Gazpacho soup. We should celebrate our diverse history—all the different cultures that came together to make us unique—not quite like any other Nation, but built from the best of many of them.

I want to celebrate what the many people of the world celebrate and evolve by learning from it all. I think it’s so very sad that there is such a strong aversion to diversity in a Nation that was built on people coming here from somewhere else. Not only have so many people foresaken the lessons we could have learned from the original peoples of this land, but from all the peoples who moved here or were brought here against there will—and many who came here with hopes and dreams because it was a better place.
