It's official, the Gang of Eight adds an amendment that will add 20,000 patrol agents and 700 miles of border fencing after a 69-29 Senate vote. The Senate also invoked cloture on S. 744 and it's expected to come up for a final vote by the end of this week.
WASHINGTON -- Senators formally added an amendment on Wednesday that increases border security measures in the "gang of eight" immigration bill, with negotiations continuing on whether additional amendments will go for votes before the full legislation is brought for a vote, likely before the July 4 recess.
The border amendment from Sens. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) and John Hoeven (R-N.D.) passed in a 69 to 29 vote, with 15 Republicans voting in favor. The Wednesday vote was similar to a 67-27 test vote that took place on Monday, but with the addition of four senators who were not present at the earlier vote.
Undocumented immigrants in Arizona are bracing themselves for the worst in the Supreme Court's revision of SB 1070. Immigrants are taking the proper precautions should they be forced to leave the state, including leaving children to guardians, homes to residents and more. A community organization, Puente, is helping immigrants take those precautions.

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!
IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE
We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.
The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.
It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.
THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!
Peace out Pierce! The architect of SB1070, along with CCA private prison has been ousted in yesterday’s vote! Pearce had worked with the American Legislative Exchange Council lobby front to shape the latest version of the bill, which had spawned similar laws in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and other states. This is great news!
Latinos all over the world are rising up against racist laws like the one in South Carolina! This is how we do it!
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Sixteen Latin American and Caribbean nations have asked to join in the U.S. Department of Justice’s lawsuit against South Carolina’s new illegal immigration law, citing concerns for their citizens.
Mexico, Honduras, Brazil, Ecuador and Chile and other countries filed papers Tuesday, asking to join the Justice Department’s litigation in Charleston.
The law would require law officers who make a traffic stop to call federal immigration officials if they suspect someone is in the country illegally. Opponents say the measure would encourage racial profiling.
The 16 nations state in their filings that the law would lead to state-sanctioned discrimination against their citizens.
Justice Department lawyers are asking the court to stop the law from taking effect in January, saying immigration policy is solely the domain of the U.S. government.
