Not only should the site not be expanded, it needs to be cleaned up. We need to stop poisoning people.

The Dirty Business Of Turning This Latino Farmworker Town Into A Toxic Wasteland

**Update via  The Center on Race, Poverty & the Environment

Last Friday we submitted over 4,900 signatures and comments to the Department of Toxic Substances Control letting them know we aren't ok with Kettleman City being our state's dumping ground! Thank you to everyone who signed and the folks at Cuéntame for speaking up for what is right. We will keep you posted on the future of the dump's permit to expand by a whopping 50% (it is already the largest hazardous waste dump this side of the Mississippi River!)

Kettleman City is a rural, majority Latino and farmworker community halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It is home to the largest hazardous waste dump this side of the Mississippi and to shockingly high rates of childhood cancer, birth defects and miscarriages - two facts residents believe to be connected. WATCH THE FOLLOWING VIDEO EXPOSÉ.

I have a three part plan for changing government:

    1. Get rid of all of the Republicans.

    2. Create a truly progressive party.

    3. Have a two party system—Democrats vs. Progressives

Then we can have intelligent discussions about how to improve the world without the lunatic fringe.

I find the kinds of statements made by these ignorant individuals appalling. All of them descended from immigrants and colonizers. What makes them think they have natural rights when their claims are built upon the theft of land and liberty from indigenous peoples. Our economy is dependent upon immigrant labor—ask agribusiness (behind closed doors, of course). Immigrants work, pay taxes, bolster the intellectual, artistic and economic landscape of this country and are as deserving of basic human rights as any of us. It’s this type of ignorance that has led to some of the greatest atrocities in human history. It’s time we develop kindness, compassion, empathy and open minds and hearts.

Watch the video “Walmart: The High Cost of Low Prices” and you’ll never want to shop at Walmart again. They are bad for labor, the environment, women and other businesses. I worry about the Walmart workers if everyone boycotts, but I cannot support a corporation that causes so much grief for so many people.
