FL Sen. Marco Rubio turns his back on the DREAM Act
If the right wing views U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio as the savior who will deliver Latino voters to the Republican Party, they’re in for a rude awakening.
That is the latest feeling among DREAMERS who are seeing their own turn their backs on them. – Axel

Exposing The Immigrants For Sale Scheme
Georgia is the latest state to pass an anti-immigrant bill like SB1070, with Governor Deal having signed it on Friday. Georgia is ALSO home to the largest private prison in the country.
Coincidence? Not even close. It’s hardly a secret that private prison corporations like Corrections Corporation of America and The GEO group, along with right-wing lobbying group ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) and a few pocketed state legislators like Russell Pearce in Arizona, have been at it–deliberately promoting and designing laws aimed at incarcerating immigrants and turning the prison system into an incredibly lucrative business.

Georgia: Buying Immigrants and Selling Peaches
It’s the cynicism and ignorance in politician’s statements when it becomes apparent that the motivation behind their actions is not out of concern for the people they represent, but rather out of a personal bias they hold within themselves. Such is the case with Sen. Bill Cowsert who recently stated the following to members of the Walton County Chamber of Commerce in response to the possible impact of a boycott against the state of Georgia.
“Who’s going to boycott us, illegal aliens? Are they going to turn themselves in and raise their hand that they’re opposed to it? I don’t see that hurting our business here.”
-Sen. Bill Cowsert

NPR: Prison Economics Help Drive Ariz. Immigration Law
Via NPRLast year, two men showed up in Benson, Ariz., a small desert town 60 miles from the Mexico border, offering a deal.
Glenn Nichols, the Benson city manager, remembers the pitch.
“The gentleman that’s the main thrust of this thing has a huge turquoise ring on his finger,” Nichols said. “He’s a great big huge guy and I equated him to a car salesman.”

Immigration: the next prison boom
$200 per night. $6000 per month. $72,000 per year. That is the average amount private prison corporations like CCA, GEO Group and Management and Training make off of one single detained migrant.
Nowadays with SB1070 copycat laws around the country – immigrants (even if they are legal) can be detained for days, weeks even months until they can prove their status. No wonder why these laws are profitable when Immigrants Are For Sale To the highest bidder.

Obama’s challenge: Convince Latinos he’s more than the anti-GOP vote
Has either party done anything to win the support of the Latino community? In hopes of getting a high voter turn out come election season, we always see promises being made, parties being themed around our culture, and mariachis playing at fundraisers across the country (singing in English more often than not), but how much support do we really get once the polls close? What I’d like to see is those mariachis playing more often in political events, not only when they’re used as a prop or bait. What do you see happening in 2012 when it’s time for elections and Latinos to lend their support?

Latina sues American Apparel CEO for sexual harassment
So the American Apparel CEO is in hot water again. It honestly doesn’t surprise me much after past sexual harassment accusations he’s faced and have been settled. It’s so ironic to me how a company that pushes for immigration reform and gay marriage is also being run by a man who has repeatedly been under the microscope for such serious allegations, at times against minors. Is he hiding behind his ‘progressive company’ and American made merchandise in order to be able to get away with other not so admirable actions? And when should the public draw the line and stop contributing to his growing wealth?
