“This law will make me feel like a Nazi out there.”

That’s how Phoenix police Officer Paul Dobson begins his personal reflection on the Arizona immigration law in a video produced by a Latino advocacy organization.

In the video, Dobson acknowledges he’s not representing the city of Phoenix or its police department.

“How I feel about SB 1070 is I have a great deal of contempt for it. I’m very emotional about. This law is pure and simple a racist law. It is focused on Latinos.”

Dobson goes on to say that he fears the law will force him to racially profile and will frighten Hispanics into not reporting crimes to police.

Supporters of Dobson describe his testimony in which he calls the law terrifying and unconstitutional as brave and inspiring.

But the video has sparked an internal investigation at the Phoenix police department that could result in disciplinary actions for the 20-year veteran, according to the Arizona Republic.

We should note that polls show the majority of residents in the U.S. and across the country support the Arizona law.

It’s still slated to go into effect July 29. However, a federal judge could grant an injunction, halting enforcement of the law while it works its way through the court system.
