I worked at the Home Depot. Companies like Home Depot, Staples, Wal-Mart, Lowes, Office Depot and on and on use the same business model which exploits the working poor. Low wages, part time work, no benefits. This is a drain on our economy and now some in congress want to abolish the meager safety net, such as Medicaid, that is a last resort for the working poor. All Wal-Mart and their ilk offer is a life of perpetual poverty.

Never shop at WalMart. Never will. Try to encourage friends/family to stop going there, but they won’t. :(

I just heard on the radio today that the five Walton children (the kids of Sam Walton) who together own Walmart now, have more assets than the poorest 41% of all Americans, which means they are worth more than roughly 125 million Americans. These are Americans who probably own 1 car (or no car), who rent a house or apartment or live with relatives or friends (and can’t afford to buy a house), have minimal healthcare (or none), and probably work at companies like Walmart. Pretty sad state of affairs. Waltons, how about showing a little patriotism and take care of all the hard working Americans who are helping you make incredible amounts of money. Show a little compassion, a little sense of duty to fellow Americans. It shouldn’t always be only about the money, should it? I won’t be shopping at my local Walmart in Northern California this black Friday. In fact, I pledge not to shop at Walmart any more until I hear that these 5 billionaires start to care about their employees and show some respect for regular Americans who are struggling to have a decent life for them and their families.

As a former Union member (IBEW) I never shop there anyway. If someday they become a Union shop I might go there, but not now.

The owners of Walmart receive as much income as 30% of the population approx.100 million people-there are only 7 or 8 Walmart owners. If they are unwilling to pay a living, provide full time work or health insurance they should not be in business.
