The Dirty Business Of Turning This Latino Farmworker Town Into A Toxic Wasteland
**Update via The Center on Race, Poverty & the Environment
Last Friday we submitted over 4,900 signatures and comments to the Department of Toxic Substances Control letting them know we aren't ok with Kettleman City being our state's dumping ground! Thank you to everyone who signed and the folks at Cuéntame for speaking up for what is right. We will keep you posted on the future of the dump's permit to expand by a whopping 50% (it is already the largest hazardous waste dump this side of the Mississippi River!)
Kettleman City is a rural, majority Latino and farmworker community halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It is home to the largest hazardous waste dump this side of the Mississippi and to shockingly high rates of childhood cancer, birth defects and miscarriages - two facts residents believe to be connected. WATCH THE FOLLOWING VIDEO EXPOSÉ.

Mona Yardumian signed [VIDEO] What Steve King Has In Mind When He Hears 'Latino Outreach' 2013-07-27 20:56:30 -0700We are not a great nation until we have a realistic, humane, fair immigration that gives everyone due process of the law. Quit breaking up families, and blaming immigrants that were brought here as children, have gone to school and are ready to contribute, but now the Republicans want to send these talented grads home.
Current immigration law is BOTH DUMB and UNFAIR![VIDEO] What Steve King Has In Mind When He Hears 'Latino Outreach'
“For everyone who’s a valedictorian, there’s another 100 out there that weigh 130 pounds and they’ve got calves the size of cantaloupes because they’re hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert."

Mona Yardumian signed Debbie: Say No To CCA! 2012-04-08 11:00:10 -0700Rep Debbie, I so look up to you. How can you possibly support another privately-owned/run prison? Their profit motives conflict with prisoners’ civil rights – and the civil rights of their families, too.
PLEASE RECONSIDER!Debbie: Say No To CCA!
Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!
Add signatureIMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE
We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.
The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.
It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!
