This private jail system is an absolute scam. I do not expect anymore of our democratically elected officials are going to be signing bills supporting an ALEC driven industry, with Macy’s and Nordstroms and the US Military having its goods produced by prisoners. The immigration and drug war pushes for new customers is enough evidence that we must return this industry to a NOT for profit venture. Honestly! Do we have no other innovation? No other market to develop? As the ‘developed’ nation with the most prisoners, in a system clearly skewed towards certain segments of our society, our prison system needs an entire review. Moving forward with such suspect collaborators is a problem. Still, it seems so few of our representatives are willing to even take the bold steps she has, so that must mean the others are cowering behind their sugar daddies.
