We do not want for profit prisons for the simple reason that Corporations prime reason for existing is to make a profit. As we have seen very recently that corporations need to make a profit for their stockholders, but it almost always turns out very bad for the people. The prison would have to keep the beds filled in order to make a profit, and will pay people to make sure that they have that quota filled. Case in point: Pennsylvania Juvenile court Judge sentenced to 28 years for sending kids to for profit prisons from 2003 to 2008 for taking Payments from the private detention centers, 4,000 cases involved! 4,000 kids making money for someone! Are we now going to be a country that lets Investors Make money from someone else’s misery, be it immigrants, drug violators or kids?
