Carole Plourde signed The Dirty Business Of Turning This Latino Farmworker Town Into A Toxic Wasteland 2013-10-10 05:04:54 -0700This toxic dump should be cleaned up and closed. Why is it that some of our children’s lives are considered expendable and others are protected from this type of environmental disaster. Farm workers children, black children, poor children always bear the brunt of environmental racism and elitism.
My son has had testicular cancer and my daughter asthma and they didn’t grow up next to a toxic waste dump and it was hard on them and on us and we are middle class.
To dump this type of burden on families who are barely get by is wrong and lacking in respect for their humanity. The Dirty Business Of Turning This Latino Farmworker Town Into A Toxic Wasteland
**Update via The Center on Race, Poverty & the Environment
Last Friday we submitted over 4,900 signatures and comments to the Department of Toxic Substances Control letting them know we aren't ok with Kettleman City being our state's dumping ground! Thank you to everyone who signed and the folks at Cuéntame for speaking up for what is right. We will keep you posted on the future of the dump's permit to expand by a whopping 50% (it is already the largest hazardous waste dump this side of the Mississippi River!)
Kettleman City is a rural, majority Latino and farmworker community halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It is home to the largest hazardous waste dump this side of the Mississippi and to shockingly high rates of childhood cancer, birth defects and miscarriages - two facts residents believe to be connected. WATCH THE FOLLOWING VIDEO EXPOSÉ.

Carole Plourde signed Side With Justice Over Racism! 2012-04-26 06:27:08 -0700The same old dogmas recycled endlessly. My mother immigrated from Quebec, Canada and she faced the same anti-immigrant attitudes from the family she married into-specifically my grandfather who was of french extraction. The men who push these Ideologies are always the same refusing to give up their privilege to build a more diverse andvibrant country. Hate is the only thing they know and promulgating it is the only thing that makes them feel like they are men which is too bad because we could do with out both the hat and their egos.
Side With Justice Over Racism!
The United States Supreme Court is hearing arguments in Arizona v. United States, the Obama administration’s challenge to Arizona’s anti-immigration law, SB1070. What they won't be hearing is what and who has fueled this discriminatory legislation.
Will justice triumph over racial profiling and discrimination fueled by supremacist and nativist fringe groups? We need to stand together in this most pressing time.
We need to show that together we reject this hate agenda.Sign the pledge stating that YOU side with justice over racism!

Carole Plourde signed Debbie: Say No To CCA! 2012-04-09 08:29:10 -0700Corporate prisons are not in the rehabilitation business but in the making a quick buck off the misery of the people in jail. They are neither efficient or cost effective in the long term because short term profit is what matters to them. Only the worst of the worst should bein prison eveeryone else needs programs that reintegrate them into our cities and towns with skills that will actually help them make a living. This saves money in the long run and turns former prison inmates into tax payers. I have seen the untold misery that corporations have blighted our country with especially those who have absolutely no social conscience or responsibility for their fellow Americans. Jobs shipped overseas, tax breaks given to corporations to stay and they take the money and then ship jobs overseas. The devastating OIl Spill in the Gulf of Mexico which will never be cleaned up that ruined the lives of many of the citizens who depended on the Gulf for a living.
And then there are the lawsuits brought against the private prison industry for abusing children and providing absolutely no remedial programs. This is another reason why I find it difficult to support the National Democratic party and donate only to individual progressive candidates when I can afford to do it.
Charles Dicken’s could write another series of novels if he was alive today which would highlight the vast inequities in our present system.Debbie: Say No To CCA!
Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!
Add signatureIMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE
We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.
The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.
It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!
