Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!

Years ago, I ran a nonprofit that received volunteer services from inmates at a “federal prison.” I viewed it as a fair exchange of volunteer time in exchange for useful training and work experience. I learned much later that it was a private prison that received annual per capita payments to house the overflow of federal prisoners in another state.

If the prison could find an infraction of the rules, it could extend a prisoner’s term and receive more money from the federal prison system. They invested a lot of time toward the end of a prisoner’s term to finding infractions and they tried to make me to do the same.

To the prison, the inmates were bodies to be sold and profits to be made. I focused instead on providing decent work experience that would be useful upon their release. The men were glad for the training and the time away from their cells, but they would certainly have preferred to be with their families or earning a living for their efforts.

If we insist on quotas, then at least protect people who are illegally in the U.S. from a punishment that does not fit the crime, that breaks up hardworking families and that makes them the slaves of some opportunistic private company.

I am disgusted that ANY Democrat would support a for-profit prison. It is outrageous that the DNC Chairwoman has sold out to the CCA. Represent the people! Corporations are NOT people!

no excuses for support of privatizing public safety

where is incentive to keep crime down when profits demand full capacity of private prison

guess we’ll have to make a lot of things illegal to keep those beds occupied

I have always had faith in your judgement but this seems like the absolutely wrong thing to do. I look forward to hearing why you are supporting it.

Jails and prisons should NOT be profitized. They should remain under US Gov’t control. I don’t like CCA or what they do AT ALL.
