Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

    Debbie, The CCA are members of ALEC. Please immediately remove yourself from this group. They are working against our own best interests. This outfit has raised the cost of prisons, not lowered it. I don’t think you want to be associated with an ALEC group, especially in Florida.

    I live in a agriculture heavy area and have many Mexican American neighbours. What I find interesting is the kindness of them compared our white neighbours, none except for one has made any effort to be friendly we’re as the Hispanic ones are always friendly and helpful especially to my elderly parents. Seeing this type of heartless discrimination makes me sick!!!

    Perhaps we’re locking up the wrong people ?

    For-profit detention centers make as much sense as for-profit armies, social safety nets, and medical care. This “business” model which is increasingly becoming the only way in which we judge the value of things is inherently flawed. Freedom and health, for two easy examples, can not have prices assigned to them. When money becomes our only system of valuation we cease to have any real ethical values.


    I have long admired Rep. Wasserman Schultz and am extremely disappointed to see her supporting something as fundamentally evil as private prisons.
