CUÉNTAME PLANTS SEEDS OF CHANGE FOR LATINO FARMWORKERS WITH CREATIVE REVISION OF POPULAR SUPER BOWL AD
via NuvoTv
The Latino political organization Cuéntame believes American Latinos were tossed a bad throw during Super Bowl XLVII.
The fumble play in question: Chrysler’s moody tribute to American farmers via its artsy Super Bowl ad for its Dodge Ram Trucks.
Titled “God Made a farmer,” the ad features a narrative quoting “So God Made a Farmer,” late radio broadcaster Paul Harvey‘s 1978 address at the Future Farmers of America Convention, and includes images of American farmers. What’s noticeably missing, however, is a representation of the Latino workers who have played – and continue to play – a vital role in farming.
Cuéntame, however, decided to balance the ad with a more fair representation of American farmers, which a 2011 U.S. Department of Labor study notes is comprised of 71% of farmworkers born in Mexico or Central America.
Cuéntame, a Latino nonprofit organization championing immigrant rights, revised the original ad with the addition of Latino and Latina faces.
