Don’t let anti-immigrant rhetoric drive the immigration debate. Nativist, racist and fear-mongering hate groups are working hard to drive their narrative on immigration. For years now, anti-immigrant groups have successfully infused their message into the national immigration debate. Influencing local politicians and national figures - with the same talking points: "More punishment", "Militarize the border", "Massive deportations", "More Enforcement." This has resulted in dangerous policies that have led to flagrant violation of human rights.
It is time we put basic immigrant, human rights back in the forefront of our national values and priorities! Let Congress and the President know that to reform immigration they must prioritize "Immigrant rights before enforcement."Add your name and message - make sure your voice is heard!

The immigration debate should not be driven by people who do not realize the most basic truth: immigrants are people, not things to be disposed of without a second thought. They also seem to have missed the grade school lesson on the golden rule.

Why can global crooks like Richard Murdoch buy fast track to US citizen?

No one doubted and the US government knew that many, many of these visa recipients would remain in the US, most to work in major US capitalist industries anxious for their hard work, industries such as hotels, construction, restaurants, agriculture, child care, and care for the elderly. Virtually all of these “undocumented” human beings are here with the explicit or implicit invitation of the US government and/or US corporations, who often recruited worker in Mexico and assisted them in skirting the US border control system which often conspired in allowing people to enter the US for the needs of the market. Time to legalize people expediently, without punitive penalties, and with a prompt pathway to citizenship.

Just today, one of my students asked me about the laws at the national and state level regarding immigration- she said there are reforms, changes, that are harmful for Mexicans. Can we just call up the President and tell him? She asked…No, but we can find ways to get involved at our level, to get our voices heard HERE. Let’s find a place to start. I saw this post from a friend and see this as the first of many opportunities. How is it right, from a human standpoint, to criticize those who want to survive? More than that, from a business and education standpoint, we have an incredible opportunity in the state of Arizona as well as throughout the country to become a more culturally responsive nation. We are a country of color, of different background and experiences. Our beauty is in our diversity. Instead of trying to conform, it is time to embrace. Learn from one another, respect one another. I tell my kids every day: you will not like everyone you meet, but you have to love every single person. We talk about what that means, on a human level, corazon a corazon. I look forward to sharing this site with my students: they may only be 11 and 12, but you would be amazed to hear the things they hear, to attempt to see the things they’ve seen, and to live the lives that many of them survive every day. To the greater education of each and everyone of us: for equality, for unity, for love and diversity!
