International music legend Sergio Mendes brings his sizzling samba sound to the Geffen Playhouse for a special four-night only concert event. Mendes, along with his full ten-piece band, will sing and swing in the Gil Cates Theater, filling the stage with the artist’s signature mix of bossa nova and percussion accents along with the distinctive pop instrumentation that have defined Brazilian music for enthusiasts around the world. Named for Mendes’ soon-to-be-released album, Celebration: A Musical Journey, this concert celebrates his five decade long career and features classics from his days as a pioneer of bossa nova as well as showcases hits from the new animated movie Rio, which will be released by Fox in the spring.
Performance Notes: Tickets in the first two rows of the theater include access to the Audi Lounge on the exquisite Glorya Kaufman Patio one hour before and after the concert. Audi Lounge guests will enjoy a private reception with complimentary beverages courtesy of Krol Vodka and Malibu Family Wines, as well as be treated to the Audilicious — a one-of-a-kind dessert created to celebrate this one-of-a-kind artist. There will be no intermission and no drinks or food allowed in the theater.
