Cuéntame and Cuéntame Director Axel Caballero Win The Social Revolución at SXSWi Mobilizer Award!

What is The Social Revolución and what is your mission goal with the Revolucionario Awards?

The Social Revolución is an interactive movement recognizing Latinos utilizing social media as a platform to create and inspire change.

The Social Revolución is dedicated to highlighting visionaries and change-makers in the online comunidad. With so many inspiring Social Revolucionarios, we felt there was a need to recognize and celebrate some of these individuals through the Revolucionario Awards.

We want to recognize Latinos that are creating change online. It doesn’t matter if you have ten fans or ten thousand followers; it’s how you use online platforms to create change. The Revolucionario Awards acknowledges and honors the work of Latinos and opens doors of opportunity by being part of SXSWi. Last year's winners including Calle 12, Maria Teresa Kumar of Voto Latino, Lalo Alcaraz of Pocho, Lance Rios of Being Latino, among others.

What does each categories represent?

The purpose of our categories was to keep it simple and to the point, but still capture the segments of participation and impact.

This year we continue our Revolucionario Awards in the following categories (#ganas):

  • The New Americano - These individuals and/or organizations are trendsetters impacting the Hispanic market online.
  • The Mobilizer - These are Latinos with international and local causes using social media as a strategy to mobilize their audience.
  • The Innovator - Whether it’s a new app or website, this movement is redefining how we reach Latinos now and in the future.

They can be an individual, group, organization, or brand with the ganas to inspire change online and off. They seamlessly represent dos mundos and are constantly redefining what it means to be Latino as trendsetters and innovators. They utilize the newest online tools to engage la gente in their networks and mobilize them to take action. Whether they have 10 followers or 10,000 fans, The Revolucionario ignites change and, with that, embodies the cry of the The Social Revolución!

Why is it important to recognize these individual nominees?

We want to recognize Latinos that are creating change online. It doesn’t matter if you have ten fans or ten thousand followers; it’s how you use online platforms to create change. The Revolucionario Awards acknowledges and honors the work of Latinos and opens doors of opportunity by being part of SXSWi.

We want to honor Latino creativity and innovation in this digital space and help ideas grow. The Social Revolución highlights these ideas and creates connections. Through the Revolucionario Awards we are recognizing the ideas as well as the people behind them – the nominees – and hopefully, help their ideas grow just a little bit further.
