The United States Supreme Court is hearing arguments in Arizona v. United States, the Obama administration’s challenge to Arizona’s anti-immigration law, SB1070. What they won't be hearing is what and who has fueled this discriminatory legislation.

Will justice triumph over racial profiling and discrimination fueled by supremacist and nativist fringe groups? We need to stand together in this most pressing time.

We need to show that together we reject this hate agenda.

    Beyond the states inserting themselves into something that the Federal Goverment manages, this promotes racial and ethnic profiling. If we are all created equat, why should racial or ethnic differences matter; however, in Arizona and most of the country, this is how a law like this is implemented.

    A large body of scientific research (e.g., Brader, Valentino, & Suhay, 2008; Short, 2004; Short and Magana, 2002; Stephan, Ybarra, & Bachman, 1999) has shown that attitudes towards immigration ARE significantly influenced by prejudice and racism. Politicians would do well to heed science, instead of pushing it to the side.
