This English Only Ad Tries To Be Sarcastic But It's Just Racist

WASHINGTON — Sen. Lindsey Graham is the first target of a new broadcast ad campaign from an anti-immigration reform group with reported ties to the white nationalist movement.

The minute long radio ad campaign by ProEnglish, comes at a particularly bad time for opponents of comprehensive reform: last week the Heritage Foundation was forced to sack a researcher for his racially tinged comments about Latinos and there are growing questions about the anti-reform movement’s connections to radical population growth groups.

My grandparents were legal immigrants. They spoke no English. Neither did my father, who was born here in the grand USA. He learned in Kindergarten and then went home and taught his parents. I found the ad really insulting.

Staged and insulting. Also, I remember growing up in an area of the country where the older people from the “old country” spoke any number of languages other than English as their native tongue. How beautiful was that and how it adds to our rich tapestry here. Some of those people also knew English and some didn’t… it varies greatly with what ease anyone can actually learn a second language (a 3rd, 4th and 5th come much easier). That diversity of sound and everything that went along with it IS one of the things that I love about this country.

Dude. First, this is totally staged. Second, I’d guess all recent immigrants to the US probably want to learn English cause not knowing it is really limiting. And third, I don’t see the problem w ppl speaking Spanish as their first language. For intricate paperwork type documents, it’s better for everyone if they are thoroughly understood by all. Even if you know a language, it’s a fact you will understand contract-like language better in your native tongue. WTF. You guys are just angry little haters.
