Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!

The private prison system is a travesty. It is a system designed to make profit from detentions of citiizens, ensuring that more citizens are detained and for longer periods. It is counter intuitive to all the principles of democracy.

How anyone can even think that lending either “moral” or financial support to the building of “detention centers”, in today’s political climate, is a good idea, is far beyond the grasp of history or understanding… Debbie Wasserman Schultz, or anyone else… Please turn around and see what is happening before your eyes ! … Private prisons are no answer to our present problems !

Of all the things the DNC and our elected officials should be focusing on, new for-profit immigrant detention centers should not be one of them.

    Dear Debbie,

Please do not support CCA, it will only forever put peasant farmers and their families from Latin America into the prison system for profit. It will only prop up an unjust system that will bankrupt states that will have to pay to keep the undocumented poor in these prisons. Since these are for profit prison they will unjustly and unfairly cut costs that will further dehumanize the poor. It is absolutely outrageous that people of principles and values would ever stoop this low. Please move to the side of justice and decency and sever all ties to the Correction Corp. of America. My prayers are with you, Rev. Randy J. Mayer—-Pastor of the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ in Sahuarita.

Prisons must be public not private. There is no governmental or citizen control over these private prisons. In truth, the federal government is paying most of the money for these institutions that are “private”. Something is wrong with this equation.

Why should anyone make a profit from imprisonment of other persons? Prisons should never be privatized.

Enough with privatization. It costs more and has unintended consequences such as with more people in America’s jails since we started privatization than ever before per capita. Enough.

I am a former federal prosecutor. Imprisonment is just as much a public function as policing, prosecution, and probation. That it should turn investors a profit — and with taxpayer dollars — is unconscionable.
