Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

There should be NO PROFIT in incarceration! That Only creates The Need to create More Laws, Stiffer Laws in order to Get More Prisoners to Create More Profits! We Can NOT Treat Our Citizens Like Products! This Is NEGATIVE INDUSTRY! It Must Be Stopped!

Listen to the 99% of your constituents who don’t want a for-profit detention center. For-profit prisons of any kind do not work. Their bottom line is profit. They will do anything to get as many prisoners as possible on any trumped up charge and keep them there as long as they can, to say nothing of the brutality inflicted upon prisoners inside these for-profit facilities. Research this carefully – there are plenty of examples. You have a reputation for being compassionate as shown to the world when you stood by Gabrielle Giffords throughout her ordeal in such a caring way. Don’t spoil your reputation.

This will taint you Ms. Wasserman – Shultz. Stay away from these sharks. Do we really want our prisons and jails run by for-profit corporations? What’s wrong with you!!! Withdraw your support for CCA now.

Locking people up for profit should be illegal. It is certainly immoral. And it happens every day at for-profit ‘correctional facilities’. We should all be appalled! The U.S. is home to 4.47% of the world’s people, but 25% of the world’s people who are locked up are locked up in our prisons. If the prison is privately owned, as those of the Correction Corporation of America, the bottom line – profit – depends on filling the cells and keeping people detained. Lobbyists for this industry push for laws that help keep the prison numbers up.

Why is Debbie Wasserman Schultz ignoring her constituents and endorsing this grotesque ‘project’?

Prisons should never be privatized; profit should never enter into marketing to increase profit by increasing inmates. The War on Drugs and Mandatory Minimums have filled our prisons with non-violent substance abuse offenders. That hurts our communities.

Profiteering of legal corrections is Orwellian and negates every value of freedom and democracy this country is supposed to stand for, for all people, documented or not. Humans are more important than money.

Why on earth would you support imprisoning people for profit? That just begs for corruption. And that’s what we’ve got. Locking up law abiding, working immigrants is corrupt, and it’s wrong, and it’s un-American. Stand on the side of compassion and justice! Tell CCA to get lost!

I am very disappointed. I used to go out of my way to catch Ms. Wasserman Shultz on CNN and MSNBC, I will be listening much more carefully to her from now on, she is not who I thought she was. No to CCA!

The entire private prison system is by definition a corrupting influence in this country. The last thing we need to is add to it when we should be getting rid of them. It’s so disappointing that Debbie Wasserman Schultz would lend her support to this.

I usually love Wasserman – can’t understand why she would take this stand on a very SCARY proposal. These prisons are terrible – they are giving states the right to throw people in jail and make money on it. Debbie – come to your senses!

privatization does not equal democracy! it continues to create isms that only benefit the 1%, and schulz obviously stands to gain by supporting such an awful initiative…hmmm…wonder what her next job will be?

Corporations are only responsible to their shareholders, not their “patrons”. If the gov’t finds it necessary to detain someone, the gov’t must bear full responsibility for their detention, not fob it off to a for-profit corporation.

Rep. Wasserman Schultz – this is not the humane or even the prudent answer. It seems completely out of character for you to support this detention center. Please search your heart.
