Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

    Debbie, as an Illinois liberal Democrat, teacher and NEA member, I greatly admire all the good work you’ve done for progressive causes. Therefore it disappoints and surprises me as to why someone, progressive like you would want to privatize something as important as correctional facilities. This will harm you and the Democrats when this becomes a national story. Looks like money is talking here. Is it?

    Debbie, I have nothing but the highest degree of admiration for you and your work for the Democratic Party, but this is a bad decision. I have a deep mistrust for private agencies taking over government responsibilities. The prospect for misdoings is too high, and the prospect for politicians to benefit from these corporations is too great. These corporations take on a life of their own to stay in business. We need to pass the DREAM Act and change immigration policy – not to set up another non-government agency which turns out to be a money pit and carries out policies against the basic need of families staying together. I know in Massachusetts nursing mothers and babies were separated and toddlers separated from their parents not knowing how to find each other.

    I am appalled that you would support private prisons. My brother was a deputy sheriff and decided to earn weekend money by working in a private prison. He stayed one week and quit. He said he would not treat human beings in such a brutal and irresponsible manner. I am deeply ashamed that anyone representing the DNC and the Party would be involved with this kind of corruption. Tell the candidates,ALL OF THEM, that decency and compassion and honesty are more important than campaign donations. Integrity filters down from the top. It is time for ALL of you to start setting a good example.

    Congresswoman, you have been a superstar Democrat on most issues, but it appears you are off course here. No more contracts should be issued to CCA. CCA has a history of being immoral if not criminal enterprise and certainly exerts undo influence in our criminal justice industry.
