Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!

Stop making immigrants into a “slave” population. Stop the practice of using prisoners as free-agriculture labor. Do not support CCA.

When you build private prisons and “detention centers” they need “customers” – which is one of the reasons why the laws in America have been evolving to criminalize things that were not crimes in the past. This once free nation now incarcerates more people per capita than any other nation on earth, including such bastions of freedom as China and Russia. Given that we already spend more on locking people up than educating them, I am pretty confident in saying that we don’t need more prisons here Congresswoman Schultz. Perhaps you should consider changing the (D) in front of your party affiliation to an®, since that is how you are behaving. And yes, I am calling you a corporate sellout.

Unless there’s something at issue here but another attempt to corporatize essential government functions, a trend I call “Mining the Middle,” the fastest growing extraction industry in the United States, which is doing only harm to the polity, I cannot support the CCA project and do not understand why you would do so? Can you explain?

Please withdraw your endorsements for the CCA project. There has been enough discrimination against the immigrant community in this country which supposedly invites and welcomes “your tired and your poor.” Or perhaps we should erase those words off the Statue of Liberty’s base if we don’t intend to honor them.

It is unconscionable what the government is doing to these poor families and should NOT be considered in any civilized society.
