Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

    I am concerned about your supporting this project. For profit prisons are not in the best interest of anyone, especially the minorities and immigrants who are most often detained in them.

    The very idea of private prisons is repugnant to the social good. Increasing profits by increasing the number of inmates and the length of sentences will necessarily follow.

    These privately run correction centers REQUIRE crime and convictions -whether it is immigration, juvenile, or minor drug crimes – in order to exist and thrive. The US is already notorious in much of the world for it’s insane criminal justice system, let’s not add an insatiable profit motive to the mix and make it even worse.

    Prisons for profit is a black stain on our democracy. We already have too many prisoners in this country. While you claim that this is facility will be a ‘minimum’ impact, I respectfully disagree. Please withdraw your support for this blight and meet with your constituents.
