Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!

We need less prisons and more people out working to support their families. Prisons for profit should not be America’s motto.

    Debbie,

You were elected to represent the will of the people, so do it! It’s time politicians started listening to the majority of people instead of the majority of money. Your constituents have spoken loud and clear. If you don’t hear them, they will vote you out…

Running prisons and detention centers with poorly trained and paid staff of private corporations, leads to abuses

Making money through incarcerating people is fraught with moral hazard. I need only point you to JUDGE Ciavarella in Luzerne county, PA who is serving time for sending kids off to a for-profit juvenile detention center for a kickback. Listen to your constituents, and if that’s not enough, listen to the rest of the Democratic party, for if you don’t, what good is a party then? and why should ever come to the support of a representative who doesn’t listen?

While we’re at it, let’s have a debtors prison and incarcerate all the no-good lousy Americans who don’t pay their bills. Wait, that’s the entire country?! Let’s make the United States one giant prison then! :) That’ll learn ’em!

For-profit jails are a national disgrace. Stop and think about where this is leading! We already have more people behind bars than any other country in the world. And now we’re going to turn jails into profit-making ventures? It is obvious that there will be far too much incentive to incarcerate more and more people when profit is involved. Our justice system is already in a fragile condition. PLEASE! Do not do this!

Our criminal justice system should NOT be a for profit industry. Please help us maintain a little integrity and keep dangerous and morally compromising practices out of our justice system!

Privatizing prisons puts powerful financial incentives into the ecomomy to find and keep more prisoners. These are perverse incentives that harm our society.

Why is the DNC suddenly supporting a racist, classist for-profit prison empire. We already incarcerate too many people, mostly African and Latin Americans, including many innocent people. I’m an Anglo-American teacher and Obama Democrat who is disgusted with the way the administration has taken “homeland security” to the point where NO ONE feels secure in this nation anymore. Soon, the only jobs available to my students when they graduate from college with massive debts will be guarding prisoners, driving trucks or invading other countries. Reverse course NOW!
