Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

Privatized prison is part of the mass incarceration & rights abuses of people of color. I recommend Michelle Alexander’s new book THE NEW JIM CROW. She is a compelling speaker on the path of punitive legislation & the dreadful US record of incarceration which is expensive, unfair, & non-rehabilitative, & non-restorative. Just say no to the prison industry.

Ms. Wasserman-Schultz: this is unacceptable. I am a big Democratic Party supporter and a Progressive. I think the prison-industrial complex is a huge threat to the principles of this nation, and our continuing well being. Don’t go there.

Prisons ARE part of the public commons. They must be owned, operated, and held accountable by we the people.

When prisons are privatized, the objective is no longer to incarcerate for the administration of justice, but instead to make profit for the corporate shareholders.

How can there possibly be justice, when we all have to pay for people to be locked up so that a few people can earn shareholder dividends?

Debbie – the problem is that there are serious issues with private prisons and I hope you research the problems found in prisons holding American convicts. Why let these private people get more of a foot in the door when we know there have been terrible treatments of prisioners.
