Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

    Private prisons must be abolished. Making profit off human misery is immoral and should be made a crime. The entire prison industrial complex needs to be extinguished. Prisons are slavery. Borders should not be. We are all earthlings.

    I can’t believe that someone as brilliant as you would buy into the magical math of “savings” through involving thousands of non-essential people in the delivery of a service, including overpaid officers and directors, and shareholders who expect a return on their investment.

    Private for profit institutions are more expensive than state-run facilities and offer fewer benefits for the workers. They are also very creative in detaining inmates beyond initial sentencing terms in order to maximize profits. The Arizona system is one case in point. How’s that working? You already know.

    Privately run detention centers are absolutely the wrong way to go, it sets the stage for incarceration for financial gain as opposed to rehabilitation. While I support private industry and its growth, this is NOT the business for them!

    The corrections/detention industry is merely an extension of the bloated military-industrial complex. Take the gross out of national product and dump dead-end, ham-fisted, polluting, money grubbing industries, that enrich the few at the expense of many. Then we’ll have a productive society. We don’t need more repression: we need to free our economy so everyone can prosper.
