Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!

Debbie, I do understand the appeal of outsourcing, but, as is the case with prisons as well as warfare, education, etc., the burden of responsibility lies with “we the people”, and we should not empower capitalist entities to take these responsibilities on as primary duties lest, in the pursuit of profit, corners are cut that lead to suffering and/or inadequacy of outcome. Anyway, outsourcing is always more expensive than self-staffing in the long-run.

By the way, it’s ironic that this for-profit prison company is named CCA; you may recall that in Paddy Chayefsky’s classic dark comedy of capitalist “values”, “Network”, CCA is the money-driven conglomerate that takes over the network and allows Howard Beal (“the mad prophrt of the airways”) and others to stage outrageous, often illegal, stunts — just for the sake of ratings (maybe a prescient vision of FOX and its influence on other broadcasters). Talk about ironic!!

Why build more prisons on any kind? People just want work and the work is there for them…

for profit prisons provide incentives to imprison people to lawmakers, businesses and tax authorities. It devastates citizens and communities and impoverishes us all on so many levels that it hardly bears thinking about it. SHAME!
