Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!

Prisons are properly a function of government, not of private enterprise.

Private prisons are an abomination. Detention is a public function and should not be outsourced to private companies for profit. Worse, these companies then use those profits to lobby for laws that do not solve societal problems and that make no sense. Their successful ability to do so not only harms our society, but it further erodes our deomcracy. Enough is enough. When a company like CCA can so influence the purportedly progressive chair of the Democratic Party, we know we’re in big trouble.

Ms. Wasserman Schultz, I am outraged as an American and a Californian Democrat, that you, of all people, a Democratic “leader”, head of DCCC, would side with members of ALEC! This is not the America that my Great Grandparents immigrated to. I will be the first to create a petition to “demote” you from your position on the DCCC.

Please reconsider the building of “prisons” as a way to “control good people from seeking their dream of freedom”. Ms. Wasserman Schultz, I used to admire your drive for the underdog. Have you switched sides? Should we now fear you, one of “our” Democratic leaders? Again, please reconsider your position on the building of this prison. The woman I used to watch on publicly televised channels, who I so greatly admired, who’s integrity is now in question would have the grace to “intelligently” change her stance with more information that has come to light.

    Sincerely,

A Democrat Who Believed in Hope

Since the corporations own almost all of our “say-so” in today’s political climate. If a consensus have shown a negative response to the CCA project, Rep Wasserman should listen to those who voted for her!

These Corporate Prisons intend to imprison the working class as a cheap labor pool. Prisoners unfortunately see a future with these Corporate prisons because they know a person with criminal record will never find a job that provides a survival income.

Pardon the intrusion of an “outsider” — but, what is it you don’t get about “representing your constituents”? If the overwhelming majority of them are against the CCA’s project, why are your so firm in supporting it? Eh…?
