Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

we’ve got 5% of the worlds population and 25% of the world’s prison population. corporations profit by more and more people being interned and the vast majority of the victims have black or brown skin and most all are at or near the poverty level.

i like you Debbie but you are so wrong on supporting private prisons. what’s next, private armies? corpoate armies?

I guess this must be a budget issue, BUT: so what?! We cannot abuse anyone in order to save money. We are humans, for crying out loud. For-profit correctional facilities are a built-in conflict of interest. The conflict? …profit versus proper care. Why politicians lose their sense of common sense is also an interesting question.

It’s a time when events in your state are noticed by people who are paying attention all across America. Prisons for profit are not what strengthen us, and we are in a time where the strength to refuse big buck bullies is crucial.

Companies like CCA have attached a profit driver to criminalizing citizens. Our society only loses in this arrangement.

Please remember that private corporations NEVER EVER want to operate without profit, so they will be interested in “product” A bunch more people in prison will not help our social ills.
