Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!

This proposal only makes money for private corporations at the expense of humane response to our immigration situation. Additionally, these for-profits have been shown to be more expensive in the long run.

Please do not give the private prison industry a larger foothold in the penal system than it already has. The prison system was privatized in the beginning to save the states money. The money is not saved. The employees are non-union. They are not adequately trained. They are hired according to low standards of qualifications. There are way too many stories now of illegalities by the guards in the private prison systems.

There are now stories accumulating of judges being corrupted by the private prison corporations- sentencing individuals to stiff sentences for very minor offenses all for kickbacks. The for-profit prison system is a driving force behind the laws proposed by ALEC, that will result i a permanent prison class. Why?

All for profit. This is indeed an aspect of our society that should not be driven by profit. I have so much more to say- but not enough space.

Ms. Wasserman Schultz: Do you understand the meaning of democracy? It’s where the people tell their elected representatives “Yes” or “No” to any proposals that affect them. To ignore them is to assume an autocratic power they did not consent to. If you want to impose your interests against those of the people, then I recommend you find a country that does just that.
