Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

I find it morally reprehensible that CCA is allowed to exist at all. I think it is unconscionable to allow an entity to lobby for and fund measures that would incarcerate humans in its facilities for the purpose of shareholder profit. Please withdraw any support from CCA. Instead, focus on matters that really impact national security, improved, accessible education, universal health care, and repair our nation’s crumbled infrastructure.

Currently, the US houses 25% of the world’s prisoners. I firmly believe this is due to the privatization of our prison system, and CCA is among the worst. Please withdraw your support from the corporation and it’s housing of immigrants. Look what has happened in Arizona due to CCA’s association with Gov. Brewer. Our country is better than that.

Corrections facilities should not be privatized, for immigrants or for citizens.

Therewith are far better ways of dealing this issue than EVER dealing with, further creating FOR-PROFIT prisons…We don’t need more prisons! We need a system where only hard-core criminals are incarcerated! Let’s release those imprisoned pretty much for “victimless crimes,” thus freeing up space.

Corporate prisons should be completely outlawed. Their entire raison de`etre is profit. What is next? Corporate police? You know better than to endorse this abomination, Debbie. You disappoint me.

Come on Congresswoman, you, of all people, should be better than this. Don’t disappoint us – and dont demoralize the base in an election year. These prison corporations are despicable entities that, in reality, should never have been allowed to exist in the first place. The have no place in a Liberal Democracy.

I suspect Rep. Wasserman-Schultz is receiving $$$ from CCA. Corruption is bi-partisan.

Corrections Corporation of America? Doesn’t that just say it all? This doesn’t help or change the situation. Quit privatizing and profiting from the pain of others!

Please reconsider your support of CCA’s proposed prison. The specter of this kind of private prison, that the courts are tragically saying are beyond the kind of accountability that public institutions have for violations of civil and human rights, will furhter damage any attempt at achieving a rational and fair immigration policy.
