Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!

Wasserman Shultz is the perfect corporate politician. The Democratic Party is all about being the back up to the Republicans for corporate America. No to CCA. Our prison industry makes me want to puke.

I have seen the fruits of the privatization of our corrections departments up close and personal. Prisoners’ families are shaken down, the taxpayers are shaken down, congressmen and judges are purchased with the proceeds. In the name of “job creation” congresspersons are purchased and prisons are built; then, of course you need lots of prisoners to put into those prison, and to maximize profits, and support the bottom line of this new corporate punishment factory prisoners are not corrected nor given any serious job training or mental health counseling (to the PRODUCERS it’s not cost-effective to re-habilitate the PRODUCT).

You call yourself a Progressive, and yet you will abet the imprisoning of even MORE PEOPLE!! We are the world’s PREMIERE IMPRISONER OF PEOPLE. I am appalled and disgusted that you have been persuaded to support this boondoggle.

How about some jobs rehabilitating and counseling people instead of locking them up, at great expense, for the profits of one of the WEALTHIEST GOVERNMENT CONTRACTORS IN THE WORLD!???

As soon as the word “prison” and “industry” were combined in American lexicon, we lost one more thing that separated us from total barbarism.

The for-profit incarceration system in this country has not got the least interest in rehabilitating inmates. The longer anyone stays in their prisons, the more money they make and the more hardened the criminal that is finally released.Angry, bitter, and cynical ex-cons will have a terrible time finding a job and fitting into the social fabric of society. Recidivism is a given for a horrific number of people. This has to stop. FOR-PROFIT PRISONS SHOULD BE DECLARED UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT. The owners and staff have no interest in the future well-being of the inmates, only in the money they bring in to pay very comfortable salaries.

Shame on you, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz! Work to IMPROVE our justice system, not enrich the owners of these monstrous creations.

The entire concept of private for-profit prisons is a travesty of an idea clearly based on a foundation of greed and complete disregard for human dignity.

MORE – prisons and the U.S.POSTAL service should be Government run – not FOR PROFIT organigations!

I am categorically opposed to privatization of prisons. It introduces and supports the 21st century version of the snake pit.
