Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

    CCA is the very personification of all that is evil about the corporate privatization of functions that are clearly the duty and responsibility of government. It will inevitably cost more, in the long run, than maintaining state operation of this prison, while destroying any accountability for that operation.


    Private prison corporations — oxymoronic, since prisons are clearly public institutions — are like vampires. They suck the blood out of the system, while creating more problems than they solve. You have an opportunity to shove a stake in CCA’s heart — do it!

    I am US citizen and voter who was once an immigrant. Regardless of where they’re from, all human beings deserve dignity, empathy and opportunity. This is a nation of immigrants, and millions arrived haphazardly without formal documentation. They have helped build this country. We should never forget that. But hey, if you don’t want immigrants to take your jobs, press Congress to enact a LIVING WAGE, so that all work is rewarded instead of encouraging a race to the bottom.
