Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

    Please do not give away our store to private interests who will only get them cheap, do a shitty job, charge us a bundle for the service, and sell it back when it needs capital. Same goes for privatizing Alligator Alley…buying back our Everglades from Big Sugar, etc…

    FOR-PROFIT Detention centers should be deemed illegal since in order for the corporation to stay in business they need to keep a profit, which means that CCA can EASILY and illegally “overlook” certain individuals’ rights in order to stay in business. This type of corporation should be outlawed federally in order to ensue that immigration reform has no repercussions against the actual ability to make illegal residents become actual citizens.


    Allowing CCA to exist does nothing beneficial towards immigration reform and you know that! Allowing CCA to continue to operate in this manner means that you are proceeding to both ethically and unlawfully allow this type of action to exist; which means that YOU and your office can and should be held liable for any unlawful actions that CCA does.


    I hope that this petition allows you to understand the full implications of your actions in your life as well as the lives of the possible thousands of unlawfully held, alleged illegal immigrants.

    For Profit Prisons are a major reason the US has the highest percentage of the population incarcerated.


    For Profit Prisons cost the taxpayers more. They only keep the healthiest and dump the unhealthy back to the state systems.


    And, in this case, obviously lobby for harsh anti-immigrant legislation. Lobbyists that are ultimately paid for by the taxpayer.
