Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!

Stop building prisons to warehouse unfortunate people. You are supporting the creation of human misery for the profit of CCA. This is appalling.

    Dear Congresswoman (Debbie Wasserman Schultz):

I am a life-long Democrat and a great admirer of the work you’ve done for the Democratic Party. I am invariably impressed by your intelligence, wit, your ability to “cut to the chase” in media interviews, and by your acumen in exposing the right wing campaign to privatize America.

Which leads to my being utterly dumbfounded that you would now be supporting the construction of a Corrections Corporation of America facility in your own congressional district.

I have just spent about an hour on the internet researching the CCA. That’s all the longer it took to discover that this corporation’s record on human rights is wretched; or that its lobbying clout (through the right wing American Legislative Exchange Council [ALEC] has succeeded in formulating policies that directly enhance its bottom line to the detriment of the prison inmates it controls. There has been public outcry about CCA’s human rights abuses in California and Georgia, as well as in your own district in Florida.

Why, then, would you be lending your name and your considerable influence in support of this company?

I am not your congressional constituent, but I am a very active Democrat. I call on your sense of justice to withdraw your support for a company that is a poster child for the kind of corporate corruption and power that increasingly diminishes the quality of democracy in this country. Please do the right thing!

The prisoner population of the U.S.A. (HIGHER than ANY country in the world – total population and population percentage) is a world wide disgrace! And the fact that it is a major revenue producing industry in our country is a insult to humanity!

Florida needs another private prison 1) To put more money in your re-election fund, 2) Increase the profits of the prison industry CEOs and shareholders even more, 3) Provide ill-gotten state revenue, 4) Decrease the number of potential Florida Democratic voters FOREVER, 5) Elevate our militarized law enforcement industry up another notch, and 6) To fuel the continuing downward spiral of poverty and income deprivation.

You, the state of Florida, and President Obama are hypocrites of the highest degree and bordering on being classified as international human rights criminals. And you are managing the development what American political party???
