Debbie: Say No To CCA!

Why is FL Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz siding with the Corrections Corporation of America and not her constituents in Southwest Ranches? 98% of her constituents DO NOT want a new for-profit immigrant detention center!

IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT FOR SALE

We call on Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-20) to WITHDRAW her current endorsements for CCA’s project.

The Obama Administration announced a change in the priorities for detentions and deportations, to focus on real national security concerns, not on separating parents from their children or deporting DREAMers who are only seeking a better future.

It is time for ICE to stop the immigrant money making machine and tell CCA to GO AWAY from Southwest Ranches.

THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED - WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! But feel free to leave your comment!

Most of us think of you as a well intentioned person, with progressive values; but supporting CCA’s expansion flies in the face of that reputation. These people are unscrupulous opportunists. Please explain how they got to you.

The Democrats have got to stop trying to represent corporations and go back to what they used to do well: representing the people.

As has been said, a government job/position will be the best job a politician will EVER have. Ergo, they cater to campaign contributions, i.e., bribes. I doubt she is the first exception.

Why does the US have more people in prisons than any nation on earth? Detention centers are prisons-for-profit, built with the “if-we-build-it-they-will-come” mindset. Already. states are exploiting citizens’ fears in order to pass harsh new laws that will “recruit” prisoners to increase profits in Arizona, Alabama, and elsewhere.

Private prisons are like private toilets. You still pay for the stink. Nothing is gained and crap is still lost.

We lose the Constitutional rights of the prisoners. The government takes away their rights and is responsible so they send them to a profit caring entity who care nothing for the prisoners and hope they will return after release, its called profit stupid.

Support for businesses like this are the reason I never give money to Democratic Party Organizations, only specific candidates. I can never support private prisons or anyone who supports them.

I am at a loss that someone with your obvious credentials can actually stand in support of this “Robber Baron” company. If being responsible for drafting and pushing AZ’s 1070, supporting two of our outstanding AZ racists…Russell Pierce and Joe Arpaio, making a profit on the backs of poor people by housing them in horrid conditions, and being an active part of ALEC is not enough to convince you, then I think the Democratic party is certainly lost and you are in the lead of taking them there. Shame on you…..

Prisons for profit is a terrible trend that needs to be curtailed, not encouraged. I respect many of the stands you have taken in the past and am shocked that you could support CCA. Please drop your support of more detention centers. I am an activist Democrat and liberal in Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky’s district. I believe in unions. I don’t believe in CCA expansion.
